About Shakuntala Devi
Shakuntala Devi, was a mathematical genius, Author and Astrologer, often dubbed as the “Human Computer”.
She has authored several books on mathematics and its appreciation. Some of these titles are Puzzles To Puzzle You, Book Of Numbers, Super Memory: It Can Be Yours, and Astrology for You.
Shakuntala Devi’s uncanny math ability was first discovered by her parents at the age of three. She also showed her calculation skills at University of Mysore and Annamalai University at the tender ages of 6 and 8 respectively. In 1982, her name was entered into the Guinness Book of Records for correctly multiplying two 13-digit figures at a speed of just 28 seconds. Due to her quick calculating ability she was called the “Human Computer”. Devi was married to Paritosh Banerji, who was an IAS officer in Bangalore and they had one daughter. Devi passed away on April 21, 2013, from complications with her heart and breathing systems.
